Women’s Amateur & Mid-Amateur Championship to be played July 11-13

ST. LOUIS (July 11, 2022) – The 84th annual Women’s Amateur & 12th annual Mid-Amateur Championship hosted by the Missouri Golf Association will take place at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis from July 11-13. In total, 63 female golfers from across the state will compete for the championship.

This tournament is open to female amateur golfers who play at clubs or courses who are members of the Missouri Golf Association. Nine-time amateur champion Ellen Port will return this year after finishing second in the Mid-Amateur last year.

The Amateur & Mid-Am Championship is a 54 hole stroke play competition. The Women’s Amateur Champion will be the golfer with the lowest three-day score, and the Mid-Amateur champion will be the golfer over the age of 25 with the lowest three-day score.

On Sunday, July 10, a practice round will take place from 12 – 4 p.m., and then a reception for the players will follow from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Monday, July 11 will feature the first round of 18-hole stroke play, starting with a 7:30 a.m. tee time. Tuesday, July 12 will follow suit with 18-hole stroke play starting at 7:30 a.m. After the first two rounds, the open division will be flighted.

On Wednesday, July 13, the final 18 holes will be played starting at 7:30 a.m., and a presentation of awards will follow play.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
