Senior Series Event at Ozark Ridge Golf Course Shows Competitive Field

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (September 10, 2024) – The Missouri Golf Association hosted a Senior Series event today at Ozark Ridge Golf Course in Poplar Bluff. Ozark Ridge offered a challenging yet enjoyable day of golf for 38 senior golfers.

Ozark Ridge Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-70 course stretching 6,248 yards from the tips. It features large bent grass greens, protective bunkers, tree-lined fairways, and a spacious driving range. 

In the 50-54 Open division, Brad Thelemier (Poplar Bluff) claimed first place with an impressive score of 1-under, 69, highlighted by four birdies. 

The 55-59 Open division saw a tie between John Shock and Bobby Godwin, both from Poplar Bluff, who finished at 3-over, 73.

The 60-64 Open division also ended in a tie, with Jeff Spies (Ozark) and Tim Holmes (Springfield) both shooting 1-under, 69, each carding three birdies during their rounds. 

In the 65-69 Open division, Mike O’Neil (St. Louis) and Dennis Osborne (Ballwin) shared the top spot with scores of 2-over, 72. 

Tony Brown (St. Louis) won the 70+ Open division with a score of 5-over, 75.

In the net divisions, where handicaps are applied, Doug Grooms (Camdenton) led the 50-64 Net group with an even-par 70. Harold Dishman (Strafford) secured first place in the 65-69 Net division with a 3-under, 67. Darell Oller (Maryville) topped the 70+ Net division with an even-par 70.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. 

 The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
