CARTHAGE, Mo. (July 16, 2024) – The MGA hosted a Senior Series event today at Carthage Golf Course. A total of 49 senior golfers competed in a round of stroke play on the par-71 course.
Carthage Golf Course, established in 1937, features eighteen challenging holes situated on a 120-acre site. From the back tees, the course spans 6,413 yards, while the forward tees cover 4,923 yards. With a slope rating of 121 from the back tees and 108 from the forward tees, the course is designed to test golfers of all skill levels.
Two ponds, two winding creeks, over 30 bunkers, and narrow fairways add to the challenge at this meticulously maintained facility. The course offers a full-service Golf Shop, practice facilities, and hosts numerous tournaments and events throughout the year.
Senior Series events are open to male golfers who are members of the MGA and are 50 years of age or older. Competitors are divided into flights based on their age as of April 22, 2024.
In the 50-54 Open division, Tod Rose (West Plains) claimed the top spot with a score of 4-over, 75.
Lowell Catron (Carthage) emerged victorious in the 55-59 Open division, finishing at even par, 71.
Tim Holmes (Springfield) took the lead in the 60-64 Open division, shooting an impressive 5-under, 66.
Bobby McKay (Joplin) earned the top position in the 65-69 Open flight with a score of 4-over, 75.
David Newberry (Crossett) shot 8-over, 79 to win the 70+ Open flight.
The following net flights, which have handicap strokes deducted from final scores, also saw competitive play:
Russ Fees (Dadeville) won the 50-64 Net flight with a score of 3-under, 68.
Ron Hogue (Springfield) earned first place in the 65-69 Net flight with a score of even par, 71.
Marvin Frazier (Festus) and Dana Elwell (Nixa) tied for the top spot in the 70-74 Net flight at even par, 71.
Lee Larschield (Kansas City) claimed victory in the 75+ Net group, finishing with a score of 1-over, 72.
