It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doug Williams, a beloved member of our golfing community, who left us on July 29, 2024, at the age of 79. Doug’s life was a testament to his love for family, friends, and the game of golf.
Doug’s journey with golf began at the young age of 10 at the Mount Vernon Country Club. His passion for the sport never waned as he strived to lower his score and, later in life, aimed to “shoot his age.” Whether it was participating in the MAGA Amateur Series, the MGA Senior Series, or managing the “Skins” game at the Golf Club of Wentzville and Incline Village, Doug’s enthusiasm and dedication were evident.
Doug was not just a golfer; he was one of the “good guys” in golf. He was known for his fairness, his meticulous record-keeping, and his belief that, over time, the winnings in the scratch “Skins” game evened out for everyone. Doug’s ability to create fun and lasting memories on the course made him a special friend to many.
Doug’s love for the game extended beyond the fairways. He enjoyed organizing fall golfing trips to Alabama, where he relished the fun banter with his friends. His passion for golf was infectious, and his presence on the course made every round a joy for those who played with him.
Visitation will be held at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, on Saturday, August 3, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon, OH. Doug Williams will be remembered not only for his skills and achievements in golf but also for his genuine kindness and sportsmanship. He epitomized the best qualities of a golfer and a friend. His legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri.
The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
