In Memoriam

Carolyn June Little
February 15, 1946 – September 13, 2016

Obituary

We are sad to report that longtime MWGA member Carolyn June Little passed away on September 13, 2016.

Carolyn and her husband Mike were members of the Columbia Country Club for thirteen years.  During that time she served on their Board of Directors from 2002-2006, serving as President from 2004-2006.  An accomplished golfer, Carolyn enjoyed a hole in one in 2004 (and there have been more), serving as the WGA President in 2003 and was the Columbia Country Club Senior Champion in 2009 and 2012.  They have remained social members ever since.

After joining The Club at Old Hawthorne, Carolyn and Mike rapidly began making an impact on those around them… She was always a champion of women’s golf and loved competing as much as she loved her social golf time.  Carolyn was a regular at the MWGA Two Lady Scramble and most recently was the Senior Low Net Champion at the 2014 Senior Championship at the Sedalia Country Club.

Longtime friend Colleen James says this about her friend Carolyn.. “Basically, she was go getter in everything she did.   Wherever Carolyn she was she would make an impact.  I would describe her as witty, fun to be around with and a fighter to the end.  You would want Carolyn in your corner.  The members at CCC will miss her greatly!

Carolyn also spent many years as Captain of the CCC and Old Hawthorne Charity Cup teams, helping to raise money to benefit several local charities in Columbia.

Carolyn’s obituary states:

“She was the daughter of Warren and Elizabeth Johnson Conner of Columbia, MO, born on February 15, 1946. She was married to her husband, Mike Little on January 21, 1978. They lived and loved life together for 38 years.

Carolyn was a family loving, friend loving, fun loving wife and mother who enjoyed life in so many ways. She was an avid golfer who enjoyed competition but more enjoyed sharing time after a round with friends; she was always one to nurture and encourage those new to the game. She was an active promoter and force behind charity golf events, with the Charity Cup being one she held close to her heart.

Carolyn was up for almost anything – except cooking. She maintained friendships with many of her high school classmates; she was Kewpie through and through – class of 1964. Girls’ Night Out was a source of much laughter and many smiles. Carolyn loved bridge and board games and animals. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed family outings such as M.U. and Fox Theater performances.

Carolyn was a successful business woman enjoying a 32 year career with Verizon. After starting as a secretary, and holding numerous positions throughout the company, she retired as Missouri State Vice President of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs in 2001.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Mike, daughter Jody Haden (Paul) Blythe, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two step-children: Tina Little, and Ivan (Julie) Little, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; brother-in-laws: Tom Little, and Jim (Julie) Little; three siblings: Warren (Janice) Conner, Jr, Sandra Conner Hombs, Marilyn Conner (Bud) Stone, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Carolyn are pending and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the following: True North, Coyote Hill Christian Children’s Home, Welcome Home Inc., or Boone Hospital Hospice Foundation.
