Mid-Amateur Championship to be held Aug. 26-27

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The 29th annual Mid-Amateur Championship and JCCC Memorial Tournament will be held at Jefferson City Country Club from Aug. 26-27, 2023. In total, 121 golfers from around the state will travel to Jefferson City to compete for the title.

The Mid-Amateur Championship and JCCC Memorial Tournament are 36 hole championships that will be held simultaneously at Jefferson City Country Club, with the field split between the two events. The Mid-Amateur Championship will feature male amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by the first day of the tournament. There are two divisions for the JCCC Memorial Tournament: Senior (golfers 50 years old or older) and Super Senior (golfers 65 years old or older).

The weekend kicks off on Friday, Aug. 25 with a practice round, where golfers will have the opportunity to warm up and prepare for the event.

On Saturday, Aug. 26, the first round of stroke play will commence with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. Each golfer will play 18 holes, aiming to shoot the lowest score. The final round will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27, and will follow the same format, with 18 holes of stroke play starting at 7:30 a.m.

Following the conclusion of play, the MGA will award the champions at an awards presentation.

Included in the field is reigning Mid-Amateur Champion Brad Carpenter, two-time Mid-Amateur Champions Chad Niezing, Brian Haskell and Adam Pfeiffer, and past Mid-Amateur Champions Ryan Eckelkamp, Harry Roberts, Steve Groom and Chris Kovach.

ABOUT MGA:

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
