MGA Stroke Play Championship Returns to Glen Echo Country Club

July 7, 2024

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (July 7, 2024) — The Missouri Golf Association is proud to announce the 27th annual Stroke Play Championship, taking place at Glen Echo Country Club from Monday, July 8, to Wednesday, July 10. The championship returns to Glen Echo for the first time since 2019, marking the second time this historic venue has hosted the event.

Players will compete in four rounds of stroke play, with the field cut to the low 50 and ties after the second round. Following single rounds on Monday and Tuesday and 36 holes on Wednesday, the player with the lowest score will be crowned the 2024 Stroke Play Champion.

A total of 148 players will challenge the course at Glen Echo Country Club, known as the oldest 18-hole private course west of the Mississippi River, opening in May 1901. Designed by 1896 U.S. Open Champion Jim Foulis and his brother Robert, the course draws inspiration from Old Tom Morris of the Links of St. Andrews. Glen Echo also holds the distinction of hosting the only Olympic golf matches ever held on American soil in 1904. The course is a Par 71, plays 6,461 yards from the tips, and has a course rating of 71.7.

Notable players in this year’s field include Skip Berkmeyer (Town and Country), a three-time Missouri Amateur Champion, Wayne Fredrick (Springfield), former MGA President and 2001 Stroke Play Champion, Alex Locke (Springfield), the 2023 Stroke Play Runner-Up, and Easton Johnson (Kansas City), a 2024 Missouri Amateur Semifinalist.
