Men’s Senior Amateur Championship to Take Place Sept. 20-21

MISSION HILLS, Kan. – The 33rd annual Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Mission Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas from Sept. 20-21, 2022. A full field of 120 golfers who are 50 years of age or older will gather in Mission Hills and compete for the championship title.

The Senior Amateur Championship is a 36 hole stroke play competition that will take place over two days of play. The tournament is open to all male senior golfers who are at least 50 on the first day of the tournament, and who are members of the MGA.

The field will be split into three flights: Championship 50 and over, Super Senior 65 and over, and Net 50 and over.

The week kicks off on Monday, Sept. 19 with a practice round, where golfers will have the opportunity to warm up and prepare for the event.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the first round of stroke play will commence with tee times starting at 8 a.m. Each golfer will play 18 holes, aiming to shoot the lowest score. The final round will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, and will follow the same format, with 18 holes of stroke play starting with 8 a.m. tee times.

After both rounds, the winners will be determined and awarded at an awards presentation ceremony following the conclusion of play. 

Included in the field are previous Senior Amateur Champions Brian Hall (2021), Jay Gregory (2017, 2020), MGA President Wayne Fredrick (2018, 2019), and Kevin Handlan (2016), 2022 Senior Four Ball Champion David Bremer, and 2022 Mid-Amateur Senior Division Winner Kirk Viehl.

ABOUT MGA:

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
