June 8, 2022

RICHMOND, Mo. — The Missouri Golf Association’s 22nd annual Junior Match Play Championship is set to take place from June 13-16, 2022 at Shirkey Golf Club in Richmond, Missouri. Last year’s Junior Match Play champions were Audrey Rischer (Columbia) and Ian Davis (Makanda).

The tournament is open to males females between the ages of 14 and 18 who play at clubs or courses that are members of the Missouri Golf Association. This tournament is scored as a Point Event, and points will go towards the players’ end of the year standings.

A practice round will be held on Sunday, June 12. The first round will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday with tee times running through 11:20 a.m. All golfers will begin on the first hole. Round two will follow on Tuesday and hold the same format as the first.

The 16 males and females with the lowest scores will advance to the first round of match play on Wednesday morning. The low eight males and females will play another round of match play Wednesday evening, and the four lowest scores from that round will advance to the semifinals on Thursday morning. The two low scores will compete in the final round of match play Thursday evening.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
