Jordan and Minor Declared Champions at 2023 Junior Match Play Championship

Final Recap

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (June 15, 2023) – After four days of play, Jonathan Jordan (Rolla) and Siena Minor (Hannibal) have been named the male and female division champions of the 2023 Junior Match Play Championship at Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield.

Jordan and Minor completed two rounds of stroke play and three rounds of match play before reaching the final match play round. They both won their flights during the stroke play portion of the tournament. 

After defeating Noah Naugle (Nixa) in the semifinal round this morning with a score of 3-up, Jordan moved on to the final round and competed against Anson Munzlinger (Columbia) who won his semifinal matchup against Max Templeman (Carthage). Jordan won the round with a score of 1-up in 20 holes. 

Siena Minor started off the morning against Josey Roberts (Ozark), where she won after the pair played 19 holes. She then faced Page Bowman (Springfield), who beat Kate Ryan (Columbia) in the semifinal round. Minor ultimately pulled out a win at 3 & 2. 

Congratulations to Jordan and Minor, and to all of the competitors for a great Junior Match Play Championship!

Day 3 Recap

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (June 14, 2023) –  Day three of the Junior Match Play Championship has come to an end at Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield. 

Congratulations to Jonathan Jordan and Siena Minor on winning their flights during the stroke play portion of the tournament. 

Golfers competed in two rounds of match play today. The top 16 golfers with the lowest scores from the two rounds of stroke play played off this morning. The eight winners of the round of 16 then faced off in the quarterfinals.

The final two rounds of match play will take place tomorrow to determine the male and female winner of the Junior Match Play Championship. 

Male golfers advancing to the semifinals tomorrow are Noah Naugle (Nixa), Anson Munzlinger (Columbia), Jonathan Jordan (Rolla) and Max Templeman (Carl Junction). 

Female competitors advancing to the semifinals tomorrow are Siena Minor (Hannibal), Page Bowman (Springfield), Kate Ryan (Columbia) and Josey Roberts (Ozark). 

Match play begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Day 2 Recap

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (June 13, 2023) –  Day two of the Junior Match Play Championship has come to an end at Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course in Richmond. 

Golfers competed in the second and final round of stroke play today. The top 16 golfers with the lowest scores from the two rounds of stroke play advanced to match play beginning tomorrow morning. 

Two rounds of match play will take place tomorrow. The 16 golfers that advanced from stroke play will go head-to-head in pairs with only the winners advancing to the evening round. 

Shooting the low score for the first and second rounds in the Male flight is Jonathan Jordan (Rolla) at eleven under par, 129. 

The following players also advanced to match play: Anson Munzlinger (Columbia), Archer Schnieders (Jefferson City), Jack Spencer (Carl Junction), Noah Naugle (Nixa), Max Templeman (Carthage), Timothy Johnston (St. Joseph), Dawson Schnieders (Jefferson City), Jaxon Bailey (Monett), Ben Christian (Dexter), Patrick Johnston (St. Joseph), Hudson Feuerbacher (Springfield), Cason Bekemeier (Republic), Miles Vollet (Jefferson City), Garrett McIntosh (Columbia) and Luke Barchenski (Eldon). 

Siena Minor (Hannibal) shot the low score from rounds one and two for the Female flight at five under par, 137. 

The following golfers also advanced to match play: Page Bowman (Springfield), Kate Ryan (Columbia), Josey Roberts (Ozark), Grace Tiedemann (Rogersville), Hanna Maschhoff (Lake Ozark), Tierney Baumstark (Columbia), Avery Wells (Eldon), Anna Bell (Poplar Bluff), Sophie Hinds (Jefferson City), Audrey Duvall (Springfield), Betsy Mitchell (Kansas City), Haven Evers (Eldon), Madison Wolf (St. Peters), Reagan Bell (Kansas City) and Ava Tiedemann (Rogersville).

Day 1 Recap

SPRINGFIELD, MO. (June 12, 2023) –  The Missouri Golf Association’s 23rd annual Junior Match Play Championship began today at Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield.

Golfers played one round of 18-hole stroke play with the second round following tomorrow. 

The top 16 boys and girls golfers will move on to match play on Wednesday. Any ties will be decided immediately following stroke play with a hole-by-hole playoff. 

Leading the Male flight is Jonathan Jordan (Rolla). He shot a five under par, 65. Following behind is Anson Munzlinger (Columbia) with a score of four under, 66. Noah Naugle is currently in third place after shooting three under, 67. 

Siena Minor (Hannibal) is leading the Women’s flight. She shot two under par, 69. Kate Ryan (Columbia) is currently in second, shooting even with par, 71. Page Bowman (Springfield) is right behind her in third place after shooting one over, 72.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director.
