Labeur and Glennon Claim Titles at Women’s Mid-Amateur and Senior Amateur Championship

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (August 29, 2024) – The 14th Women’s Mid-Amateur and 32nd Senior Amateur Championship concluded today at Sunset Country Club, with two days of competition coming to an end. 

In the Mid-Amateur Championship Division, Manon Labeur (Creve Coeur) captured the title with a solid final round, finishing with a 2-over, 146 for the tournament. Labeur’s steady play over both days, which included six birdies during her opening round, secured her first Mid-Amateur Championship victory. 

Mindy Coyle (Columbia) and Kathy Glennon (Wildwood), both strong contenders throughout the tournament, tied for second place with scores of 6-over, 150.

Glennon continued to dominate in the Senior Amateur Championship Division, where she claimed her fourth Senior Amateur title. Glennon posted a consistent score of 3-over, 75 on both days, finishing with a total of 6-over 150. 

Christie Blasi (Ozark) took second place with a 9-over, 153, while Dee Johnson (Perryville) finished in third at 18-over, 162.

The Net Senior Amateur Championship Division saw Glennon post the lowest net score of even par, 144. However, due to her victory in the Senior Amateur Championship Division, the Senior Amateur Net Champion trophy was awarded to Blasi, who finished with a net score of 1-over, 145. Johnson rounded out the top three with a net score of 4-over, 148.

In the Mid-Amateur Open Division, Sherry Kempton (Sedalia) emerged victorious with a score of 29-over, 173. Kempton’s consistent play across both rounds secured her the top spot. Sue Biederman (St. Louis) claimed second place with a 34-over, 178, while Barb Blankenship (Jefferson City) finished third at 39-over, 183.

Kempton also led the way in the Senior Amateur Open Division, mirroring her Mid-Amateur Open performance with a 29-over, 173. Becky Haulotte (Sedalia) came in second at 33-over, 177, and Biederman, who had a strong showing in both divisions, took third place at 34-over,  178.

In the Net Open Division, Biederman captured first place with a net score of 7-over, 151. Pamela Lenhard (St. Peters) and Kempton tied for second place, both finishing with a net score of 8-over, 152.

Following the final round, an awards luncheon was held to honor the winners. The Missouri Golf Association congratulates all participants on their impressive performances and thanks Sunset Country Club for providing a beautiful and challenging venue for this year’s championship.

(August 28, 2024) – The first round of the 14th Women’s Mid-Amateur and 32nd Senior Amateur Championship at Sunset Country Club concluded today, setting the stage for an exciting final round tomorrow. With favorable weather and great course conditions, the competition saw impressive performances from both the Mid-Amateur and Senior Amateur divisions.

In the Mid-Amateur Championship Division, Mindy Coyle (Columbia) emerged as the leader, posting an impressive 1-under, 71. Coyle’s round was highlighted by four birdies, which pushed her to the top of the leaderboard. Coyle, who placed sixth in last year’s Mid-Amateur Championship and was part of the winning team at the 2024 Two Lady Scramble, will be looking to secure her third Mid-Amateur title and the coveted traveling trophy in tomorrow’s final round.

Following closely behind Coyle is Manon Labeur (Creve Coeur), who sits in second place at even par, 72. Labeur, originally from France and a former collegiate golfer at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, recorded six birdies during her round.. Kathy Glennon (Wildwood), who is also competing in the Senior Division, is currently in third place at 3-over, 75.

In the Senior Amateur Championship Division, three-time Senior Amateur Champion Glennon leads the field with a 3-over, 75, matching her score in the Mid-Amateur Division. Glennon’s round included four birdies, positioning her as the favorite to claim her fourth Senior Amateur title. Christie Blasi (Ozark) trails Glennon by two strokes at 5-over, 77, while Dee Johnson (Perryville) sits in third place at 6-over, 78.

The Senior Amateur Net Championship Division saw Johnson take the lead with a net score of 1-under, 71. Glennon, showing her versatility across multiple divisions, is in second place with an even-par, 72, and Blasi is close behind with a net score of 1-over, 73.

In the Mid-Amateur Open Division, Sherry Kempton (Sedalia) leads the pack with a 16-over, 88. Trailing her by two strokes are Barb Blankenship (Jefferson City) and Sue Biederman (St. Louis), who are tied for second at 18-over, 90.

Meanwhile, in the Senior Amateur Open Division, Becky Haulotte (Sedalia) holds the top spot with a 15-over, 87. Kempton is in second place at 16-over, 88, while Blankenship and Biederman are tied for third at 18-over, 90.

The Senior Amateur Net Open Division saw Pamela Lenhard (St. Peters) take command with a net score of 5-under, 67. Biederman and Marge Behrens (Troy) are tied for second place with net scores of 1-over, 73.

The competition resumes tomorrow with the final round of 18-hole stroke play, beginning with tee times starting at 8:00 am. Following the round, participants will gather for an awards luncheon, where the champions of each division will be crowned and presented with their respective traveling trophies.
