JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (August 30, 2026) – Buddy Allen of Pevely sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to capture the Senior Division title, while Steve Groom of Raytown earned a one-stroke victory in the Super Senior Division as the Jefferson City Country Club Memorial Championship concluded Sunday.
The 36-hole stroke play championship featured Senior and Super Senior divisions competing over two days at Jefferson City Country Club. Calm conditions greeted players during Saturday’s opening round before a slight breeze added another element to Sunday’s final 18 holes.
The Senior Division entered Sunday wide open after David Johnson of Kirkwood, John Moore and Joseph Malench each opened with rounds of 1-under-par 71 to share the first-round lead.
Allen began the final round one stroke behind after an opening 72 and followed with a 73 on Sunday to finish 36 holes at 1-over-par 145. Ed Brown of Blue Springs, meanwhile, made his move during the final nine. After opening the championship with a 73, Brown played Sunday’s back nine in 1-under par to post a final-round 72 and join Allen at 145.
With the pair tied after regulation, Allen and Brown returned to the first hole for a sudden-death playoff.
Allen needed only one extra hole to decide the championship. Facing a 20-foot birdie putt on No. 1, Allen rolled it in to secure the Senior Division title.
Tod Rose of West Plains and Johnson finished tied for third at 3-over-par 147. Rose provided another memorable moment during Sunday’s final round when he recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 17th hole. Rose finished with rounds of 72 and 75, while Johnson followed his opening 71 with a final-round 76.
In the Super Senior Division, Groom entered Sunday with the lead following an opening-round even-par 72. He posted a final-round 78 to finish at 6-over-par 150 and hold off Tom Leonard of Leawood by a single stroke.
Leonard made a final round push with a 2-over-par 74, improving three shots from his opening 77 to finish at 7-over 151. Mike Snyder of Jefferson City rounded out the top three at 15-over-par 159.
The victories capped two days of competition at Jefferson City Country Club and added Allen and Groom to the list of JCCC Memorial champions.
