KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September 16, 2024) – The Missouri Golf Association is excited to host the 35th Annual Senior Amateur Championship at Blue Hills Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri, from September 16-18, 2024.
This event, open to male golfers aged 50 and older who are members of the Missouri Golf Association, brings together top senior golfers from across Missouri and contiguous states.
Participants will compete over two rounds of 18-hole stroke play on September 17 and 18. The championship features three divisions: Championship (50+), Super Senior (65+), and Net (50+), offering a competitive and exciting format for all qualifying players.
Blue Hills Country Club, a par-72 course, has been a cornerstone of Kansas City’s golfing community for over a century, known for its championship pedigree, amenities, and commitment to creating a family-friendly atmosphere. Established in 1912, Blue Hills has recently completed significant upgrades, reflecting its dedication to evolving with the needs of its members while honoring its rich history.
Last hosting the Missouri Senior Amateur Championship in 1992, Blue Hills once again opens its doors to showcase the talents of Missouri’s top senior golfers on a course that embodies tradition and excellence.
This year’s championship will see 112 golfers with an average age of 61, including every Missouri Senior Amateur Champion since 2016. Among the contenders is defending champion Sean McQueary (Springfield), who won at Algonquin Golf Club in St. Louis in 2023 and advanced to the round of 64 at the 2024 Missouri Amateur Championship.
“I love the group of seniors we have in the MGA, and I just love the competitive nature,” McQueary said. “I think we’re getting to play an outstanding golf course, and for the Senior Amateur, it couldn’t be a better venue.”
Another standout in the field is Wayne Fredrick (Springfield), who recently competed in the 2024 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. Fredrick is the only player in Missouri Golf Association history to have won all six men’s state championships, including the Missouri Amateur, Stroke Play, Mid-Amateur, 4-Ball, Senior Amateur, and Senior 4-Ball titles.
Ron Eilers (Columbia) will also be competing, bringing with him the notable accomplishment of having tied for first place in the 2004 Senior Amateur Championship at Westwood Hills Country Club, a milestone that highlights his talent 20 years later.
The competition will feature an impressive lineup of past Missouri Senior Amateur Champions among McQueary and Fredrick, including David Rismiller of Kansas City (2022), Brian Hall of O’Fallon (2021), Jay Gregory of Lineville (2020, 2017), Kevin Handlan of Kansas City (2016), Charlie Schorgl of Leawood (2012), BJ Curry of Sunrise Beach (2010), and Scott Edwards of Clayton (2009).
Additionally, the field includes past Missouri Mid-Amateur Champions Harry Roberts of St. Joseph (2010), Brian Haskell of St. Joseph (2009, 2008), and Steve Groom of Raytown (2001).

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship.
