Westwood Hills Country Club Hosts Competitive Senior Series Event

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (September 9, 2024) – The Missouri Golf Association conducted a Senior Series event today at Westwood Hills Country Club, featuring senior golfers from across the state. The par-71 course, which spans 6,427 yards, provided a challenging setting for the competition.

Established in 1936, Westwood Hills Country Club is celebrated for its well-maintained fairways and greens, offering a classic golfing experience that tests both skill and strategy.

In the 50-54 Open division, Tod Rose (West Plains) excelled, securing first place with a score of 4-under, 67. His round was highlighted by five birdies and just one bogey. 

Bobby Godwin (Poplar Bluff) performed solidly on his home course to finish with an even par, 71 in the 55-59 Open division.

Tim Holmes (Springfield) ended the day with a score of 2-over, 73 in the 60-64 Open division. 

Bobby McKay (Joplin) captured a 1-over, 72 in the 65-69 Open division, including four birdies throughout his round.

Robert Trittler (Wentzville), competing in the 70+ Open division, also scored a 1-over, 72. He maintained a clean card until the 16th hole. 

Tony Farris (Fulton) achieved a 2-over, 73 in the 59-64 Net division, taking first place. 

The 65-69 Net division saw a tie between Dave Pingel (Branson West) and Harold Dishman (Strafford), both impressively scoring 5-under, 66. 

Hugh McKay (Jefferson City) took the 70-74 Net division with a score of 1-under, 70, and John Abercrombie (Cape Girardeau) finished the 75+ Net division with a 3-over, 74.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. 

 The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
