Excitement Builds for Women’s Mid-Amateur & Senior Amateur Championship at Sunset Country Club

August 26, 2024

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (August 26, 2024) – The Missouri Golf Association is set to host the 14th Women’s Mid-Amateur and 32nd Senior Amateur Championship from August 27-29 at Sunset Country Club in St. Louis. This tournament will bring together 26 of the state’s top female golfers, who will compete for titles in two divisions: Mid-Amateur for golfers aged 25 and older, and Senior Amateur for those aged 50 and above.

To participate in the tournament, competitors must be members of the Missouri Golf Association and reside in Missouri or a contiguous state.

The tournament format features 36 holes of stroke play, with the lowest total score determining the champions in each division. Participants may choose to compete in the Championship Division, playing from 5,452 yards, or opt for the less competitive Open Division, which plays at 4,868 yards.

The event kicks off on Tuesday, August 27 with a practice round. The first round of competition will take place on Wednesday, August 28, with 18 holes of stroke play. The final round will be held on Thursday, August 29, culminating in another 18 holes of stroke play, followed by a player reception.

The Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will feature 23 participants, with 10 golfers competing in the Championship Division and 13 in the Open Division. The Senior Amateur Championship will see 21 golfers, with 9 competing in the Championship Division and 12 in the Open Division.

Returning competitors include several past champions, such as Kathy Glennon (Wildwood), who has dominated the Senior Amateur event, winning titles in 2023, 2022, and 2018. Glennon also captured the Mid-Amateur title in 2017 and recently qualified for the 2024 U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur Championship.

Another notable participant is Christie Blasi (Ozark), who reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur Championship in 2022. Blasi also placed second in last year’s Missouri Women’s Senior Amateur Championship.

The host venue, Sunset Country Club, has a rich history and a reputation for delivering a challenging but fun golf experience. Situated in the St. Louis metropolitan area, Sunset’s course is known for its tight, tree-lined fairways, rolling hills, and strategically placed bunkers. Established in 1916, Sunset has welcomed many legendary players, including Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, and Gene Sarazen.

As the tournament approaches, excitement is building for what promises to be an interesting competition. With a mix of seasoned champions and rising young golfers in the field, the Women’s Mid-Amateur and Senior Amateur Championship at Sunset Country Club will showcase some of the best golf Missouri has to offer.
