Senior Series Finishes in Joplin at Twin Hills

JOPLIN, Mo. – Today, May 9, 2023, 67 senior golfers competed in a Senior Series Tour event at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Missouri. This was the Tour’s second day in Joplin, and it started with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Senior Series events are open to male golfers who are members of the MGA and 50 years of age or older. Players compete in flights based on their age as of April 17, 2023. 

Bobby Godwin (Poplar Bluff) repeated his win yesterday of the 50-59 Open division after shooting three over, 75.

Tim Holmes (Springfield) also won the 60-64 Open flight both yesterday and today, finishing at two over, 74.

In the 65-69 Open division, Morgan Parker (Springfield) came out on top with a score of one over, 73.

Finally, David Newberry (Crossett) and George Bowler (Warrensburg) tied for first place in the 70+ Open flight with scores of seven over, 79. Newberry also won the 70+ Open flight in yesterday’s event.

The following net flights have handicap strokes deducted from final scores.

Steven Cameron (Miller) won the 50-58 Net division at one under, 71.

Russ Fees (Dadeville) and Tony Farris (Hermann) tied for first place in the 59-64 Net division, both shooting two over, 74. Farris also finished at the top of the leaderboard yesterday at Eagle Creek.

Dana Elwell (Nixa) finished in first place in the 65-69 Net flight after shooting three over, 75.

Lastly, the 70+ Net division was won by John Carrington (St. Louis) with a score of two over, 74.

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
