Families to Gather at Porto Cima for Parent Child Championship from Aug. 1-2

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. – The 16th annual Parent Child Championship will be held at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach from Aug. 1-2. In total, 59 pairs of parents and their children will compete in different flights for the championship title.

Teams will be made up of pairs including father-son, father-daughter, mother-son and mother-daughter. The minimum age for all participants is 12 by the first day of the tournament. 

A practice round will be held on Sunday, July 31. The tournament will kick off with round one on Monday, Aug. 1. Teams will play 18 holes with tee times starting at 8 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. off holes 1 and 10. Round two on Aug. 2 will follow the same format, with 18 holes being played with tee times at 8 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. off holes 1 and 10.

There are five different flights the participants will be divided into:

The Open Flight will consist of the top 7 teams with the lowest combined handicaps. This flight will play 6 holes scramble, 6 holes alternate shot, and 6 holes best ball on both days of the tournament. The Overall Champion will be named from this flight.

The Championship Flight will be broken down into several flights based on team handicaps. This flight will play 36 holes scramble.

The Century Flight is the division for teams with combined ages of 100 or more. This flight will also play 36 holes scramble. Teams in this flight will only be competing against each other.

The Super Senior Flight is for teams where one of the players is 70 or older. This flight will play 36 holes scramble, and will only compete against each other.

Finally, the Pro Division Flight will be open and teams will play 6 holes scramble, 6 holes alternate shot, and 6 holes best ball.

ABOUT MGA:

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
