38th Annual Junior Amateur Championship to be at Greenbriar from July 18-19

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – The 38th annual Junior Amateur Championship will take place at Greenbriar Hills Country Club in Kirkwood from July 18-19, 2022. This tournament will consist of 144 male and female golfers from the ages of 8 to 18.

The Junior Amateur will return to Greenbriar Hills for the first time since 1998. This is only the second time Greenbriar has hosted this event.

Competitors who are ages 14-15 and 16-18 will play 36 holes of stroke play. There is a separate 36 hole stroke play division for 12-13 year olds. Younger golfers who are 8-9 or 10-11 will play 9 holes each day.

On Sunday, July 17, there will be a practice round for all players beginning with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.

Monday, July 18 kicks off the first round of stroke play. There will be tee times off hole 1 starting at 7:30 a.m. The second round on July 19 will follow the same format, with tee times off hole 1 at 7:30 a.m.

Following the final round, awards will be given to the flight champions.

2021 Junior Amateur Champion Bailey Burkett (Kansas City) will return this year to defend her title. 

Also included in the field are 2022 Junior Match Play Champion Tierney Baumstark (Columbia), Match Play runners-up Alexander Wiseman (Poplar Bluff) and Marlee Edgeman (Marshfield), and Match Play semifinalists Kiser Pannier (Sedalia), Gaige Lewis (Springfield), Jonathan Jordan (Rolla), and Page Bowman (Springfield).

ABOUT MGA: 

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
