SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (October 19, 2025) – The 2025 Hieronymus Cup brought two competitive days of team match play to Twin Oaks Country Club, where the Men’s West Team and Senior Men’s East Team emerged victorious after a weather-delayed weekend of matches.
The Hieronymus Cup, one of the Missouri Golf Association’s most anticipated team events, features both Men’s and Senior (50+) divisions. Twenty players represent each side — East and West — with the state divided by U.S. Highway 63. The event includes four-ball, alternate shot and singles matches, with each win earning one point and each tie earning half a point.
Saturday’s play was marked by steady rain and multiple weather delays, forcing the field to complete only the four-ball matches before calling it a day.
In the Men’s Division, the West Team took early control and dominated throughout the morning. The East Team didn’t win a single match in the division, though two matches were halved. West’s Derek Reynolds (Springfield) & Kevin Kring (Springfield) defeated East’s Corey Choate (Eureka) & Jason White (St. Charles) 3 & 1, while Alex Locke (Springfield) & Kory Franks (Lake Ozark) halved their match with Tony Gumper (St. Charles) & Ryan Eckelkamp (Washington).
Meanwhile, Ryan Schuenke (Quincy) & Adam Pfeiffer (Quincy) tied their match with Zach Vandolah (Kansas City) & Tyler Peasel (Columbia), while Chase Gafner (Springfield) & Hunter Parrish (Columbia) claimed a 2 & 1 win over Ryan Sullivan (Imperial) & Brad Carpenter (Washington). The West’s most dominant win came from Brad Nurski (St. Joseph) & Tyler Stalker (Springfield), who defeated Patrick Britt (St. Louis) & Thomas Wuennenberg (St. Louis) 5 & 3.
In the Senior Division, the East Team jumped to an early lead, earning three match wins and one tie to finish the day ahead. The East’s David Strickland (Fenton) & Brian Lovett (St. Louis) secured a 2 & 1 victory, while Buddy Allen (Pevely) & Brian Hall (O’Fallon) won their match 2 & 1. David Pfeil (Eureka) & John Moore (Hannibal) added another East win with a 5 & 4 victory, and Tod Rose (West Plains) & Kirk Viehl (Edwardsville) halved their match to cap off a strong first day.
After day one, the West Men’s Team led 4–1, while the Senior East Team led 3.5–1.5.
With weather clearing on Sunday, the teams returned to the course to complete both the alternate shot and singles matches.
The West Team built momentum early in alternate shot, winning nearly every match in both divisions. In the Men’s division, Hunter Parrish (Columbia) & Brad Nurski (St. Joseph) won 4 & 3, while Tyler Peasel (Columbia) & Kory Franks (Lake Ozark) edged Brad Carpenter (Washington) & Ryan Eckelkamp (Washington) 1 up. The only East win came from Wuennenberg & White, who defeated Reynolds & Gafner 3 & 2.
The Seniors saw similar dominance from the West, highlighted by Brian Haskell (St. Joseph) & Tim Holmes (Springfield) winning 7 & 6 after four birdies on the front nine. West’s Doug Flowers (Springfield) & Scott Whittaker (Springfield) followed with a 2 & 1 victory, while Harry Roberts (St. Joseph) & Travis Mitchell (Springfield) secured a 4 & 3 win. The East’s Moore & Pfeil prevented a clean sweep with a 2 & 1 victory.
Heading into the singles matches, the West Men’s Team led 8–2, while the Senior West Team pulled ahead 5.5–4.5.
In the Senior Division, the East needed a strong finish, and the team delivered. Kirk Viehl (Edwardsville) edged Doug Flowers (Springfield) 1 up, and Tod Rose (West Plains) earned a commanding 5 & 4 victory over Scott Whittaker (Springfield). David Pfeil (Eureka) and John Moore (Hannibal) added convincing wins of 6 & 5, while Buddy Allen (Pevely) closed out with a 5 & 4 victory.
With Brian Lovett (St. Louis) tying Brian Haskell (St. Joseph) in a back-and-forth battle, the East clinched the overall Senior Hieronymus Cup, 9.5–8.5. Across all senior matches, the East won 50 holes compared to the West’s 30.
In the Men’s Division, the West entered singles needing just 2.5 points to seal the Cup—and wasted no time. Zach Vandolah (Kansas City) and Derek Reynolds (Springfield) both posted dominant 7 & 6 wins to push the West to the brink. Adam Pfeiffer (Quincy) kept East hopes alive with a clutch win on 18 over Kevin Kring (Springfield), but when Chase Gafner (Springfield) won the final hole against Corey Choate (Eureka), the Cup was secured for the West.
Other late-evening wins included Ryan Schuenke (Quincy), Thomas Wuennenberg (St. Louis), Brad Carpenter (Washington), and Ryan Eckelkamp (Washington)—all earning singles victories for the East.
When the final points were tallied, the West Men’s Team captured the Hieronymus Cup 12.5–7.5.
