JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Dec. 28, 2023) – The Missouri Golf Association has announced its 2024 event schedule, including over 10 new events and format changes to long standing tournaments.

Over 60 events for players of all ages and genders are on the 2024 schedule. St. Joseph Country Club will host the 117th Missouri Amateur Championship, and the 94th Women’s Amateur Championship will take place at Hickory Hills Country Club in Springfield.

Significant updates and changes to the 2024 schedule are as follows:

Missouri Amateur, Women’s Amateur & Junior Champion Receive USGA Championship Exemptions

Starting this season, champions of the following three MGA championships will earn an exemption into their corresponding USGA championship:

  • 2024 Missouri Amateur Champion exempt into 2024 U.S. Amateur
  • 2024 Missouri Women’s Amateur Champion exempt into 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur
  • 2024 MGA Junior Match Play Female Champion exempt into 2024 U.S. Girls’ Junior

This exciting development is part of a modernized USGA qualifying model that will begin to utilize State Amateur Championships that meet certain three-year rolling WAGR Power (field strength) thresholds with another pathway into certain national championships in addition to the traditional qualifying and exemption process.

Format Change for Missouri Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur & Senior Amateur

Unlike previous seasons, the 94th Women’s Amateur Championship will be a standalone event, and not held concurrently with the Women’s Mid-Amateur. Instead, the Women’s Mid-Amateur & Women’s Senior Amateur will take place simultaneously at Sunset Country Club in St. Louis. The Mid-Amateur & Senior Amateur will consist of two rounds of stroke play. Players who are eligible for both events will be able to compete in both simultaneously.

Inaugural Women’s Match Play Championship

The MGA is excited to announce the inaugural Women’s Match Play Championship at Lake Valley Golf & Country Club in Camdenton! This event is open to women of all ages and there will be a Championship division and Open division. There will be one qualifying stroke play round, and then a cut to the lowest 16 scores in both divisions. Match play rounds will take place until we have our first Women’s Match Play Champion!

New Ladies Series with Three Events

The female slate of events is expanding even further this year with the introduction of the MGA Ladies Series! The series will consist of three one-day events for women of all ages. Each event will be a partner event, such as a shamble or four ball. The three sites are Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton and Sedalia Country Club in Sedalia. This series will offer even more opportunities to female golfers to compete at top notch courses in Missouri.

Missouri Junior Amateur Expanded to 54 Holes

The 40th annual Junior Amateur Championship will expand from 36 to 54 holes in the 2024 season. Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington will host the event. After the first two rounds, a cut will be made to the lowest scorers who will compete in the final championship round.

ABOUT MGA:

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
