Final Recap

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (Aug. 8, 2023) – After competing against teams of female golfers from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas the past two days, Team Missouri placed second at the 2023 Fore State Championship. This annual event took place at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. 

Missouri finished with 14 points, following Oklahoma in first with 17.5. Kansas finished with 11.5 points, and Arkansas earned 5.

Yesterday, a round of Four Ball took place in the morning, followed by a round of Foursome Matches in the afternoon. Missouri earned 4.5 points in the Four Ball and 2 points in the Foursomes, entering today’s final round of Single Matches with 6.5 points.

Seven out of 12 Missouri golfers won their matches: Barb Blankenship defeated Paula Curtis from Arkansas 6 & 5; Stephany Powell beat Kansas golfer Susan Mueller 3 & 1; Dee Johnson won a tight match against Arkansas player Sarah Hardison 2 & 1; Tina Jones defeated Denise Desilet from Kansas 3 & 1; Ellen Port decidedly won against Arkansas’ Kerry Lareau 7 & 6; Mindy Coyle beat Janet Miller of Oklahoma 5 & 4; and Christie Blasi defeated Susan Devoe from Kansas 2 up. 

Missouri player Ella Overstreet tied her match with Kansas golfer Katy Winters, earning half a point. With the seven matches won and one tied, Missouri earned 7.5 points this round, bringing their total to 14.

Day 1 Recap

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (Aug. 7, 2023) – A team of 12 female golfers from across Missouri are competing against teams from Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas in the 29th annual Fore State Championship at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma today and tomorrow.

Players competed in a round of Four Ball this morning and Foursome Matches this afternoon. After both rounds, Missouri is in second place with 6.5 points. Oklahoma is leading with 8.5 points, Kansas has earned 6, and Arkansas is in fourth with 3. 

Missouri did well in the four ball round, winning four matches and tying one. Tina Jones and Barb Blankenship beat Oklahoma’s Patty Coatney and Lorie Harned 2 & 1, Taryn and Ella Overstreet defeated Natalie Gay and Melissa Holland of Arkansas 4 & 3, Christie Blasi and Mindy Coyle won against Susan Devoe and Pam Simpson from Kansas 4 & 3, and Janis Clemens and Stephany Powell beat Arkansas golfers Pamela Evans and Michele Wallace 5 & 4. Ellen Port and Dee Johnson tied with Janet Miller and Marna Raburn from Oklahoma.

Team Missouri earned 4.5 points in this first round.

Missouri won two matches in the foursome round: Ella Overstreet and Kiser Pannier beat Presli Webb and Lauren Loeb from Arkansas 2 & 1, and Blasi and Coyle defeated Sarah Hardison and Heather Kirby from Arkansas 8 & 7.

Missouri earned 2 points in this round for a total of 6.5 for the day.

Play will continue tomorrow with a final round of singles matches. An awards luncheon will follow.

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship.
