SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. (June 19, 2023) — Maya Mcvey (Blue Springs) is the 93rd Missouri Women’s Amateur Champion at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach! 

Mcvey, who graduated high school in May and will play collegiately for the University of Central Missouri in the fall, shot an impressive two under par, 70, during the final round of stroke play, sinking five birdies and bringing her total score to even par, 144. 

Our champion was closely followed by Kiser Pannier (Sedalia). Shooting one under, 71, in the final round of stroke play, Pannier is our runner-up for the Missouri Women’s Amateur Championship. Pannier made a birdie on hole 18 to take the second-place spot over the 2022 Women’s Amateur Runner-Up Siena Minor (Hannibal). Over the course of the two rounds, she shot one over par, 145. 

Minor shot a two over par, 146, to bring home third place in the Amateur Championship flight. 

Nine-time Missouri Women’s Amateur champion and reigning Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion Ellen Port (St. Louis) is our Mid-Amateur champion for the second consecutive year. Port shot two over, 74 in today’s final round to win by two strokes. Over the course of the two rounds, Port shot four over par, 148. Port has been successful in nearly every avenue of women’s golf, but this is only her second time as champion of the Missouri Women’s Mid-Amateur.

Kallie Harrison (St. Louis) is in second place behind Port. Dannegger shot even par, 72, in the final round and found herself at six over par for a total gross of 150.

In third place, Kathy Glennon (Wildwood) shot nine over par, 153, to round out the podium for the Missouri Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Glennon is the reigning Missouri Senior Amateur Champion. 

Taking home first place in the Amateur Open Division is Jacie Pattengill (Cape Girardeau) at seven over par, 151. Behind her and placing second is Stephany Powell (Springfield) at 25 over par, 169. Jennifer Washington (Osage Beach) took third place at 44 over, 188. 

Becky Haulotte (Sedalia) won the A Flight Mid-Amateur Open Division. Barbara Blankenship (Jefferson City) was three strokes behind her in second place, and Powell took home third. 

In the B Flight Mid-Amatuer Open Division, Susan Van Horn (Sedalia) shot the low score to take first place. Christine Tran (Columbia) was right behind her in second, and Becky Pecher (Weldon Spring) placed third.

Day 1 Recap

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. (July 17, 2023) — Rylie Andrews (Chesterfield) and Hayley Jones (Wichita) lead Amateur players after the first round at the 93rd Missouri Women’s Amateur and 13th Mid-Amateur Championships at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach. 

Andrews, who recently graduated high school and will soon compete collegiately at Missouri State, and Jones, who competes collegiately for the University of Central Missouri, shot even par, 72, during the first round. Andrews sunk three birdies during her round and Jones sunk four. The two are followed by Siena Minor (Hannibal), Junior Match Play Champion and 2022 Women’s Amateur Runner-Up. Pfitzner fired off three birdies en route to a score of one over, 73. 

In the Mid-Amateur Championship, nine-time Missouri Women’s Amateur champion and 2022 Mid-Amateur Champion Ellen Port (St. Louis) leads at two over, 74 — she also sits at tied at fourth in the Amateur rankings. 

Port is a 7-time USGA Championship winner. She is tied for third all-time in the category, sitting behind players including Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, JoAnne Gunderson and Jack Nicklaus. 

Leading the Amateur Open Division is Jacie Pattengill (Cape Girardeau). Pattengill shot four over par, 76, to lead the flight. Behind herl, shooting 14 over par, 86, is Stephany Powell (Springfield). 

In the Mid-Amateur Open Division, Sherry Kempton (Sedalia) leads at 12 over par, 84. She is closely followed by Barbara Blankenship (Jefferson City), who shot 13 over par, 85. 

All golfers will play in round two of stroke play tomorrow at Porto Cima. Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. and go until 12:00 p.m. All golfers will tee off on hole one.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
