Final Recap

COLUMBUS, Ne. (June 28, 2023) – The 55th annual Junior Girls Four State Championship at Elks Country Club in Columbus, Nebraska concluded today with Team Missouri taking third place. Six junior girls faced teams from Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.

Sophie Hinds (Jefferson City), KC Lenox (St. Peters), Avery McLaughlin (Town & Country), Siena Minor (Hannibal), Kate Ryan (Columbia) and Grace Tiedemann (Rogersville) were chosen to represent Missouri.

Yesterday, Missouri earned 2.5 points, placing them in second behind Kansas with 5 points. Today, the golfers competed in single matches, with each win earning a point.

Two of the Missouri golfers won their matches: Kate Ryan (Columbia) defeated Saleah Vivanh-Vong of Iowa 5 & 3, and Avery McLaughlin (Town and Country) won against Iowa’s Addison Berg 3 & 2. KC Lenox (Saint Peters) and Siena Minor (Hannibal) both had close fought matches and lost to their opponents 1 up. 

Nebraska and Kansas both saw success in the single match round, earning 4.5 points each. The final standings saw Kansas in first place with 9.5 points, Nebraska in second at 6.5, Missouri in third earning 4.5 and Iowa in fourth place with 3.5.

Congratulations to all of the Four State competitors for being the top female junior golfers in their state! Missouri will host the Four State Championship in 2024.

Day 1 Recap

COLUMBUS, Ne. (June 27, 2023) – The team of six junior girls representing Missouri competed at the 55th annual Junior Girls Four State Championship at Elks Country Club in Columbus, Nebraska today. The tournament features teams from Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.

Sophie Hinds (Jefferson City), KC Lenox (St. Peters), Avery McLaughlin (Town & Country), Siena Minor (Hannibal), Kate Ryan (Columbia) and Grace Tiedemann (Rogersville) were chosen to represent Missouri.

On Day 1 of the competition, the girls were paired off to compete in a round of four ball. The team of Hinds and Tiedemann tied with Ainsley Wilson and Lauren Briggs (Iowa) to earn team Missouri 0.5 points. Ryan and Minor narrowly fell to Karsen Morrison and Julia Karmazin (Nebraska), who won with a score of 1 up. Team Missouri also lost to Kansas, with McLaughlin and Lenox falling to Alexa Garrett and Liz Lyons at 4 & 2. This round left team Missouri in fourth place, 0.5 points behind Nebraska. 

In the afternoon of Day 1, foursome matches took place. Tiedemann and McLaughlin defeated Nebraska team Olivia Lovegrove and Elly Honnens at 6 & 4, and Minor and Lenox beat the Iowa team of Chloe Bolt and Jane Peterson 2 & 1. The final Missouri team of Ryan and Hinds fell to Kansas golfers Clair Berquist and Ella Slicker. Missouri received 2 points this round, giving them a total of 2.5, which put them in second behind Kansas at 4.

Tomorrow, the girls will compete in single match play to determine the winning team.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club.
