Final Recap

COLUMBIA, Mo. (June 29th, 2023) Today, the Missouri Golf Association concluded our inaugural Junior Amateur 13 & Under Championship at Lake of the Woods Golf Course in Columbia. A total of 25 junior golfers ranging from six to 13 years old played two rounds of 18-hole stroke play.

Eli Cummings (Eldon) won first place in the 12-13 boys age division with the lowest score of one over, 143. Ty Brandt (Jefferson City) took second place at four over, 146, and Landon Nichols (Nixa) followed at six over, 148. 

The lowest score amongst the 9-11 male group belonged to Blaine Munzlinger (Columbia), who shot 27 over, 169, over the course of the two days. Brock Jernigan (Lebanon) earned second with a score of 36 over, 178, and Hudson Marcolla (Chillicothe) took third after shooting 40 over, 182. 

Gabby Vineyard (Kearney) has the lowest score for the 12-13 girls division at 12 over, 154. Drew Maze (Columbia) earned second place after shooting 39 over, 181, and McKenzie Martin (Jefferson City) from the 9-11 girls group has the third lowest overall score at 57 over, 199.

There is just one competitor in the 6-8 age division: six-year-old Emerson Munzlinger (Columbia). She played nine holes each day and finished with a score of 32 over, 104, over the two days of competition.

This is the first year that the annual Missouri Junior Amateur Championship has been broken into two separate tournaments: 13 & Under and 14-18. The MGA aimed to give their youngest junior golfers an event of their own with the new 13 & Under Championship. The 14-18 Junior Amateur Championship will be from July 10-11 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville.

Day 1 Recap

COLUMBIA, Mo. (June 28, 2023) – Today, the Missouri Golf Association had its first round of the inaugural Junior Amateur 13 & Under Championship at Lake of the Woods Golf Course in Columbia. A total of 25 junior golfers ranging from six to 13 years old played a round of stroke play.

Eli Cummings (Eldon) is currently leading the boys with the lowest score of one under, 70. Ty Brandt (Jefferson City) is close behind at two over, 73, and Landon Nichols (Nixa) follows at three over, 74. The lowest score amongst the 9-11 male group belongs to Blaine Munzlinger (Columbia), who shot 10 over, 81, for the day.

Gabby Vineyard (Kearney) has the lowest score for the girls division at eight over, 79. Drew Maze (Columbia) is in second place at 20 over, 91, and McKenzie Martin (Jefferson City) from the 9-11 girls group has the third lowest overall score at 28 over, 99.

There is just one competitor in the 6-8 age division: six-year-old Emerson Munzlinger (Columbia). She played nine holes and finished with a score of 15 over, 51 for the first round.

The juniors will play another round of stroke play tomorrow, June 29, and the boy and girl with the lowest gross scores in the 9-13 divisions will be named the Junior Amateur 13 & Under Overall Champions.

ABOUT MGA:

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
