SUNRISE BEACH — After the first day of competition at the 114th Missouri Amateur Championship at The Club at Porto Cima, seven players sit under par with Davis Cooper (Overland Park, Kan.) leading the field after a 5-under 67 in Round 1.

 
Cooper, who plays collegiately at Kansas, will head into Wednesday’s Round 2 action with a two shot lead over the two players tied for second. He made seven birdies and two bogeys during his round to head into the clubhouse at 34-33.
 
Tied for second are Logan Smith (La Plata), who plays collegiately at William Woods, and Ryan Eckelkamp (Washington), who both shot 3-under 69. Smith began strong, carding a 32 on the front, before carding three bogeys and two birdies on the back to finish with a 37. Eckelkamp similarly shot 33-36, including two bogeys and two birdies to support his 3-under start on the front nine.
 
Round 2 will begin with staggered starts, with groups going off from the first and 10th holes. Tee times will range from 7:30 a.m. to 2:42 p.m. Wednesday will be the final round of stroke play before cut down to 64 players to head into match play.
