17th Annual Parent-Child Championship to be held at Porto Cima July 31-Aug. 1

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. (July 27, 2023) – The 17th annual Parent-Child Championship will be held at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach from July 31-August 1, 2023. In total, 67 pairs of parents and their children will compete in different flights for the championship title.

Teams will be made up of pairs including father-son, father-daughter, mother-son and mother-daughter. All participants must be at least 12 years old by the first day of the tournament.

There are several different flights for this event:

The Open Flight will consist of the top 10 teams with the lowest combined handicaps. This flight will play six holes scramble, six holes alternate shot, and six holes best ball on both days of the tournament. The Overall Champion team will be named from this flight.

The Championship Flight will be broken down into several flights based on team handicaps. This flight will play 36 holes scramble.

The Century Flight is the division for teams with combined ages of 100 or more. This flight will also play 36 holes scramble. Teams in this flight will only be competing against each other.

The Super Senior Flight is for teams where one of the players is 70 or older. This flight will play 36 holes scramble, and will only compete against each other.

A practice round will be held on Sunday, July 30. The tournament will kick off with round one on Monday, July 31. Teams will play 18 holes with tee times from 7:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. off holes 1 and 10.

Round two on August 1 will follow the same format, with 18 holes being played by each team in each flight.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
