WASHINGTON, Mo. (July 7, 2026) – The opening round of the 42nd Annual Missouri Junior Amateur Championship is complete, with Hudson Shy of Saint Charles and Alexi Omillian of Kansas City taking the early leads at Franklin County Country Club.
Players were greeted by pleasant morning conditions before temperatures climbed into the upper 80s throughout the afternoon. With only a slight breeze throughout the day, competitors took advantage of favorable scoring conditions on the par-71 layout.
Shy paced the boys field with a 3-under-par 68, recording five birdies to take a one-shot lead after the opening round.
Tied for second at 2-under-par 69 are Chase Segal of Chesterfield and Parker Andersen of Wentzville, while Hayes McIntosh of Lee’s Summit and Cole Packingham of Lake Saint Louis sit tied for fourth at 1-under-par 70. Packingham entered the week as one of the championship’s top returning contenders after finishing fourth in last year’s Missouri Junior Amateur Championship.
In the girls championship, Omillian carded the only under-par round of the day, posting a 1-under-par 70 to lead the girls field. Her round featured five birdies, giving her a one-shot advantage heading into Wednesday’s second round.
Addie Swan of Lee’s Summit sits in second after an even-par 71, while Julia Schlitt of Jackson is third at 2-over-par 73. Defending champion Betsy Mitchell of Kansas City is tied for fourth at 5-over-par 76 alongside Laylah Bates of Branson, keeping both players within striking distance entering the second round.
The championship resumes Wednesday morning with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. from both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. At the conclusion of the second round, the field in each division will be reduced to the top 40 percent of competitors for Thursday’s final round.
