KANSAS CITY (June 26, 2026) – A first-time Missouri Amateur champion will be crowned Sunday after two rounds of match play narrowed the field to eight players Friday at the 119th Missouri Amateur Championship at Milburn Country Club.
Players were greeted by a rainy and gloomy morning, but conditions steadily improved throughout the day as the clouds cleared, creating an enjoyable afternoon for golf. The favorable finish to the day allowed both the Round of 32 and Round of 16 to be completed, setting the stage for Saturday’s quarterfinals and semifinals.
One of the day’s top performances belonged to Tony Gumper of Saint Charles. After defeating Brian Whitson in the Round of 32, Gumper survived the longest match of the Round of 16, defeating fellow Saint Charles native Hudson Shy in 20 holes to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
Leawood’s Alex Hogan continued his impressive run through the bracket. Hogan opened the day with a victory over Meyer Lively before knocking off co-36-hole low scorer Harrison Zipfel of St. Louis, 2 & 1, in the Round of 16 to advance.
Connor Knabe of Overland Park also advanced to the Elite Eight after eliminating defending champion Chad Niezing of Manchester in the Round of 32 before earning a 2-up victory over Corey Choate in the Round of 16.
Brady Rapp of Leawood continued his pursuit of the championship with victories over Jaxon Bailey and John “Bubba” Chapman. Rapp appeared in control of his Round of 16 match after building a four-hole lead with six holes to play before Chapman mounted a comeback, winning three consecutive holes on Nos. 14 through 16. Rapp held on to secure a 1-up victory and advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Joining Gumper, Hogan, Knabe and Rapp in the championship’s Elite Eight are Logan Mayo of Tontitown, Ark., Harper Ackermann of Webster Groves, Cole Wiese of High Ridge and Hunter Parrish of Columbia.
Saturday’s quarterfinal matchups will feature Tony Gumper against Logan Mayo, Harper Ackermann versus Connor Knabe, Alex Hogan against Cole Wiese and Brady Rapp against Hunter Parrish.
Quarterfinal matches are scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, with the semifinals to follow later in the day as the field continues its pursuit of the 119th Missouri Amateur Championship.
