Where Missouri golf meets a full Ozarks experience

As you drive down the winding roads of southern Missouri and into the hills of the Ozarks, something begins to shift. The pace slows. The noise fades. Your eyes drift beyond the road, taking in a landscape filled with rolling hills, flowing water, and bursts of color.

As you pull into one of Missouri’s top golf destinations, you see wildlife moving in the distance, and the air feels different. You realize that you are somewhere else. Somewhere quieter. Somewhere special.

There’s a stillness in the morning air, broken only by birds and the subtle movement of the landscape waking up around you. It’s the kind of quiet that invites you to pause, to take it in, to settle into a slower rhythm. As soon as you step onto Big Cedar Lodge property, you notice it’s not just the setting that is unique, it’s the full experience that sets them apart.

Big Cedar Lodge has taken the natural beauty and welcoming spirit of the Ozarks and woven it into every part of your trip.

Golf Rooted in the Land

With three championship 18-hole courses and a collection of short courses, Big Cedar Lodge presents one of the most diverse golf experiences in the Midwest. But what stands out isn’t just the number of layouts, it’s how naturally they fit into the land they occupy.

Owner Johnny Morris has a clear philosophy: let the land of the Ozarks lead the design.

At Buffalo Ridge, a Tom Fazio-designed course, fairways weave through native grass and historic timber, offering a walk through Missouri’s natural beauty as much as a round of golf. Don’t be surprised when you spot roaming bison off a couple of fairways. They’re a great reminder that at Big Cedar, you’re playing within the natural beauty of Missouri, not around it.

Payne’s Valley, a course designed by Tiger Woods’ TGR Design, brings a broader scale to Ozarks golf. Wide corridors, dramatic visuals, and bold architecture create a layout that is both accessible and memorable. Named the #3 public course in America by USA Today in 2025, it offers a championship experience on a distinctly Missouri backdrop. The round concludes with the now-famous 19th hole—an island green par three that adds a final, competitive moment among playing partners.

At Ozarks National, the challenge and visuals begin to expand. Built across ridgelines and rolling terrain, the course offers a more demanding test while providing some of the best panoramic views on property. Together, the three championship courses provide a range of experiences that appeal to both casual players and dedicated golf travelers.

The 3 short courses continue to extend that variety.

Mountain Top, designed by Gary Player, provides golfers with a nice casual stroll around the course on a layout set high above the surrounding hills, where every hole comes with a stunning view. Top of the Rock, a Jack Nicklaus-designed par-3 course, pairs golf with sweeping looks over Table Rock Lake and some of Missouri’s naturally exposed limestone formations. And Cliffhangers, the newest addition, designed by Big Cedar’s own Johnny and JP Morris, pushes the concept even further by blending dramatic elevation changes with creative design, creating something that feels as much like an adventure as a round of golf.

Beyond Golf

But at Big Cedar, the day doesn’t end with the round.

In many ways, it’s just getting started.

The time between rounds is part of the experience itself. A meal at Osage Restaurant, perched above Table Rock Lake, offers a refined dining experience with views to match. For something more casual, Truman Café and Custard provides a quick, satisfying stop without losing the sense of place. No matter where you stop across the property, hospitality feels consistent, intentional, welcoming, and distinctly Ozarks.

For those looking to keep the energy going, Fun Mountain offers a completely different pace. With more than 50,000 square feet of activities, including go-karts, a ropes course, bowling, and arcade games, it creates space for families, groups, and golfers alike to extend the day in a new way.

And when it’s time to take in all of the Ozarks’ beauty, Big Cedar makes that just as easy.

Experiencing All of the Ozarks

Tucked into the natural landscape is Cedar Creek Spa, an 18,000 square-foot escape that provides a quiet retreat designed for recovery and relaxation. Whether it’s after 18 holes or simply a break from a full day of activity, all it takes is one visit to understand why it is so highly regarded. The setting, just like all other parts of the property, encourages resetting and settling back into the same calm noticed on arrival.

Beyond the main resort campus, Big Cedar’s surrounding attractions offer a deeper connection to the region.

At Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, guests can explore miles of preserved Ozark terrain on foot, bike, or horseback. Waterfalls, rock formations, and free-roaming wildlife create an experience that feels closer to a national park than a traditional resort excursion.

Nearby, Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium offers a different kind of immersion. Through expansive exhibits and detailed storytelling, it brings conservation and outdoor heritage into focus in a way that resonates with visitors of all ages.

Back at Top of the Rock, the experience continues off the course with the Lost Canyon Cave and Nature Trail. Traveled by golf cart, the trail winds through caves, waterfalls, and towering rock formations, offering one of the most unique perspectives on the Ozarks landscape. Along the way, a stop inside a natural cave can lead to a drink in hand and a moment that could leave lifetime memories. The on-site history museums add further context, connecting the region’s natural beauty to its cultural past.

As evening settles in, the atmosphere shifts once again. At Thunder Ridge Nature Arena, live music and events unfold within the surrounding hills, blending large-scale entertainment with the same natural setting that defines the rest of the property.

A World Class Experience, Not a Golf Trip

Once you set foot on Big Cedar Lodge property, you realize that it is not simply a place to play golf.

It is a destination where golf is the centerpiece, but all the additional pieces are what make it special. A place where the landscape shapes every moment, where activities extend far beyond fairways, and where time seems to move just a little differently.

You come for the courses.

But you leave remembering everything in between.
