Sissom Wins Overall at Missouri Adaptive Championship; Kmak, Schatzer Capture Division Titles

October 5, 2025

COLUMBIA, Mo. (October 5, 2025) — The Missouri Golf Association’s Inaugural Missouri Adaptive Championship wrapped up today at Lake of the Woods Golf Course with Mark Sissom (Scott City) capturing the Overall Men’s Division title after two steady rounds.

Sissom opened with an even-par 71 yesterday, making three birdies and playing mistake-free golf from hole 12 through the finish. He followed with a 75 today—again carding three birdies—to post 146 (+4) for the championship.

Phil Kmak (Lake Forest) claimed runner-up honors in the Overall Men’s Division with rounds of 78–77 for 155 (+13), closing his week with a Sunday that featured timely pars to secure second place.

Carter Arey (Columbia) finished third after improving from an opening-round 81 to a final-round 78, totaling 159 (+17).

Beyond the overall leaderboard, division titles highlighted the championship’s depth across multiple impairment classifications:

In G3, G6 Division (Multiple Limb Impairments), Kmak completed a winning double—adding the division crown to his overall runner-up finish—while Bradley Schubert (McHenry) placed second with rounds of 102–100 for 202 (+60).

In the G4, G5 Division (Upper Limb Impairment), Richard Schatzer (California) staged the day’s biggest move. After a 97 in round one, Schatzer fired a 19-over 90 today—a seven-stroke improvement—to surge into the lead and win at 187 (+45).

Ed Thomas (Springfield), who led after a first-round 94, closed with 98 to finish second at 192 (+50). Charles Kruse (Holland) took third with 195 (+53).

In the G1, G2 Division (Lower Limb Impairment), the podium matched much of the overall board: Sissom secured the division title, Arey finished second, and Clint Thompson (Rockwell City) placed third with rounds of 102–106 for 208 (+66).

The Missouri Golf Association thanks Lake of the Woods for hosting and remains committed to growing inclusive, competitive opportunities statewide. For more information on this event, visit www.mogolf.org/ or call our office at 573-636-8994.
