Senior Series Opens Season at Highland Springs

SPRINGFIELD, MO (April 22, 2024) – Senior Series events kicked off today, April 22, 2024, at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, Missouri. The highly anticipated opening event had a full field of 90 players who played a round of stroke play beginning with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.

Senior Series events are open to male golfers who are members of the MGA and 50 years of age or older. Competitors compete in flights based on their age as of April 22, 2024. 

Winning the 50-54 Open flight, Tod Rose (West Plains) shot even par, 72. 

Lowell Catron (Carthage) won the 55-59 Open flight at one over, 73.

Steve Groom (Raytown) and Scott Whittaker (Scottsdale) tied for first place in the 60-64 Open flight with a score of seven over, 79.

Tim Rinker (West Plains) and Dennis Osborne (Ballwin) tied for first in the 65-69 Open flight after shooting six over, 78.

Finally, Robert Trittler (Wentzville) won the 70+ Open flight at seven over par, 79. 

Jeff Brown (Sunrise Beach) took home first in the 50-58 Net flight after shooting 7 over, 79. 

Tony Farris (Fulton) took home the title in the 59-64 Net flight with a score of one over, 73.

Joe Brown (St. Joseph) was the winner of the 65-69 Net flight at two under, 70.

In the 70-74 Net flight, Jan Skola (Camdenton) came out on top after shooting two under, 70. 

Lastly, shooting one over, 73, Glenn Pearl (St. Louis) won the 75+ Net flight.

ABOUT MGA:

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
