First Annual Senior Match Play Championship to be Held at Tanglewood

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The First Annual Senior Match Play Championship, hosted by the Missouri Golf Association, will be held at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton from June 26-29, 2023.

This new event will be open to male golfers who live in Missouri and are aged 50 or older by June 26, 2023.

There will be an 18 hole qualifier on the first day of play with a cut to the lowest 32 scores, and then match play to follow the next three days.

The Championship will conclude with the crowning of the first Missouri Senior Match Play Champion on Thursday, June 29. The top two players will compete in an 18-hole final to determine the winner.

The championship will have just one flight that will be a gross only flight.

Entries for this event will open on Tuesday, April 4 at 9 a.m. and will close on Monday, June 19. Players must be a member of the MGA to compete. The entry fee is $150.

The Missouri Senior Match Play Championship will be a Hieronymus Cup Matches point event. It will also count towards the Bushnell Player of the Year standings.

The Missouri Golf Association looks forward to hosting this inaugural event and expects an entertaining and competitive tournament.

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
