Match Play Field Nearly Set Following Dramatic Finish to Stroke Play Qualifying at Missouri Amateur Championship

June 24, 2026

KANSAS CITY (June 24, 2026) – Stroke-play qualifying concluded Wednesday at the 119th Missouri Amateur Championship, but the final match-play berth remains undecided after darkness suspended a playoff for the final spot in the 64-player bracket at Milburn Country Club.

Players enjoyed clear skies, warming temperatures and little wind throughout Wednesday’s second round of qualifying, but Milburn Country Club’s fast greens once again proved to be the course’s greatest defense.

Lee’s Summit’s Stone Yerington and St. Louis’ Harrison Zipfel earned co-medalist honors after finishing 36 holes at 5-under-par 139. Yerington followed an opening-round 70 with a 2-under-par 69, while Zipfel fired a 4-under-par 68 in the second round to climb into a share of medalist honors.

Leawood’s Brady Rapp finished one stroke behind the co-medalists at 4-under-par 140 after rounds of 69 and 71. Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl, Overland Park’s Connor Knabe, Ames’ Brock Snyder and Chesterfield’s Tyler Linenbroker shared fourth place at 3-under-par 141, while Mission Hills’ Henry Mayor and Kansas City’s Zach Vandolah rounded out the players under par at 2-under-par 142.

Defending champion Chad Niezing of Manchester comfortably advanced to match play after posting rounds of 74 and 73 to finish at 3-over-par 147, tied for 23rd heading into bracket play.

The race for the final match-play positions produced one of the championship’s most dramatic moments. Fourteen players finished tied at 8-over-par, forcing a playoff for the final 10 spots in the championship bracket. Nine players secured their place in match play Wednesday evening before darkness suspended the playoff after four holes, leaving Brian Whitson and Keevan Statz to return Thursday morning to determine the final berth.

Match play will begin as scheduled at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, with all matches except the pairing involving the eventual No. 64 seed beginning on time. Once the playoff concludes Thursday morning, the final competitor will join the bracket and tee off later in the afternoon.
