The Missouri Golf Association would like to congratulate Hank Lierz of St Joseph, Missouri, for earning the 2018 Junior Player of the Year award for the 2nd year in a row. Lierz who is a Senior at Bishop LeBlond High School and member of his high school golf team that won the Class 2 State Team Championship by 66 strokes last May and he finished runner up in the individual play.
This summer, Lierz continued his strong play in many tournaments. He was a Semi Finalist in the MGA Junior Match Play Championship at Al Gustin Golf Course. Lierz, than qualified for the Missouri Amateur Championship where he made the round of 64 and lost in the first round. He quickly rebounded in the month of July to capture the Missouri Junior Amateur Championship at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club by shooting a 36-hole total of 8 under par. Riding that momentum Lierz than placed in a 6th place tie at the Missouri Stroke Play Championship at Millwood Golf and racquet Club in Ozark, Mo.
“it is a great honor to be selected for the Junior Boy’s Player of the year” Lierz said. “There are a lot of very talented young golfers around the state of Missouri and I couldn’t be more thankful. This award will motivate me to have an even better year upcoming in 2019 and beyond.”
