COLUMBIA, Mo. (Oct. 5, 2023) – The Missouri Golf Association will host the yearly Hieronymus Cup Matches at Columbia Country Club in Columbia from October 7-8, 2023. Throughout the season, golfers earn points at Point Events, all with the goal of qualifying for the Hieronymus Cup. There will be 40 total players: 10 East side golfers, 10 Senior East side golfers, 10 West side golfers and 10 Senior West side golfers.

Between the western and eastern sides of the state, U.S. Highway 63 is the dividing line. Players living in cities on or west of Highway 63 are on the West Team, and players living to the east of the highway are on the East Team. For each team, eight of the top 20 are chosen from the current year’s Cup Team point standings, eight more are chosen from the current year Senior Cup Team point standings and the remaining four are chosen by the Captains.

The East Team Captain is Tony Gumper. The team includes Gumper and nine other players: Ryan Eckelkamp, Jason White, Brad Carpenter, Adam Pfeiffer, Ryan Schuenke, Pat Britt, Ryan Sullivan, Corey Choate and Chris Kovach.

The Captain of the West Team is Jamie Hathcock. The 10 players in this division are Hunter Parrish, Tyler Stalker, John Fuchs, Brian Bennett, Bryan Wright, Alex Locke, Alex Downing, Kory Franks, Brad Nurski and Chase Gafner.

The Senior East Team Captain is David Pfeil, and he holds a spot on the team. The other nine players are Buddy Allen, Kirk Viehl, Brian Lovett, Brian Hall, Bobby Godwin, Tony Nolfo, Mike Domenick, David Bremer and Joe Malench. 

Finally, the Senior West Team Captain is Ed Brown. Brown is a member of the Senior West Team, alongside Wayne Fredrick, Brian Haskell, Harry Roberts, Tim Holmes, Kevin Rome, Steve Groom, Jeff Eiserman, Chuck Admire and Doug Flowers.

The tournament will begin on Friday, Oct. 6 with practice rounds. That evening, there will be a Cup Dinner and matches will be set for the next morning.

The first round of play will begin on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 8:15 a.m. with four ball matches. In the afternoon, there will be foursome matches. After all play has concluded, there will be another team dinner and single matches will be set for the final day of competition.

On Sunday, Oct. 8, single matches will begin at 8:15 a.m. These will be played in groups of four. After all play has finished, awards will be given to the winning teams.
