IAN BARNES, LICKING, MO

Ian is a Senior at Licking High School and a member of the golf team. Over the years he has competed in many MGA Championship and MGA Junior Events but this is his first year being awarded the Junior Player of the Year. To earn this honor Ian received points based on how he finished in MGA Junior events in 2014.

He competed in 5 Hieronymus Junior Series Tour events where he finished first at Oak Hills GC and Kirksville CC, second at AL Gustin GC and Redfield GC and fourth in the Tour Championship at Meadow Lake Acres CC.  He finished the year by making it to the round of 16 in the Junior Match Play at Columbia CC and finished tied for 25th in the Junior Amateur at Paradise Pointe GC in Smithville. 75/74 (5 over par).

Ian also qualified and was invited to play in the 3rd annual Southern States Junior Cup Matches.  The matches are played at the end of each season against the best junior players in Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma. This was Ian’s third and last time to compete in these matches that mean so much to him.

“the memories I will cherish the most come from what I think to be the best tournament the MGA Junior program could ever be part of, the Southern States Junior Cup. Since its beginning 3 years ago the ultimate goal of my year was to make the Missouri Cup team, and I was blessed to be part of the team all 3 years. I would encourage every junior golfer in Missouri to make this a summer goal because it’s a great tournament and an excellent experience. I consider myself blessed to have played with excellent players like Ashley, Taylor, Jenna, Nichole, Mikala, Brooke, Matt, Jack, Brett, Mark, Frankie, Tanner, the Woods brothers, Taylor and Bailey, and in my first year Mitch and Joey. Hopefully next year the Missouri team can finally take the cup away from Oklahoma.”

Ian’s 2014 play in the SSJC matches at Dalhousie:

He and Taylor Hayes lost their Four Ball Match to Mississippi 2 & 1. They came back and won their Foursome Match against Arkansas 1 up and Ian went on to win his singles match against Connor Neil of Arkansas 7 & 5

Again, Congratulations Ian on a great season.
